ABOUT CHURCH RECORDING. |
Church Recorders are NADFAS volunteers who make records of the contents of our national churches, thereby promoting the recognition and preservation of the rich artistic heritage to be found in places of worship of all religions. They record memorials, metalwork, stonework, woodwork, textiles, paintings, library, windows and miscellaneous items. The items are described in detail and their history researched. All the material is then compiled into a book illustrated with photographs and drawings. This record is presented to the church and copies are sent to national institutions to form part of a heritage archive. |
CHURCH RECORDING AT ST LEONARD'S NEWLAND. |
We are currently busy at - a 19c church endowed by the wife of 3rd. Earl Beauchamp to provide care for the souls of the occupants of the Almshouses. An exceedingly colourful church full of wall-paintings,marbles and stained glass, it will take much time and effort to do it justice. In November 2008 we presented the Record for St. Nicholas Queenhill - a tiny church set in the approaches to Bredon School. Although small, this church had treasures such as part of a Saxon doorway, a set of Garter Arms tiles, a 17c alabaster slab memorial and 14c English arms depicted in stained glass. Identifying forgotten treasures is such a rewarding aspect of Church Recording. We need to increase our membership so enquiries from anyone interested in Church Furnishngs would be welcome.
